Imbanyana Fashions is a division of Imba, founded in November 2023 by our CEO, Nkeke Funani. The journey began when Nkeke purchased a sewing machine for her 11-year-old daughter, who had a passion for designing and sewing. Together, they learned the craft, and within four months, their bags gained recognition on social media by ABSA, a major sponsor of Proudly SA. This recognition led to Imbanyana Fashions becoming a proud member of Proudly SA. Nkeke was also selected to be part of a panel discussion at the Proudly SA summit, while Minister Stella Ndabeni, as Minister of Small Business Development, was in attendance at the event. Notably, Imbanyana Fashions' bags, particularly the backpacks, have reached far and wide, including the hands of directors from: - Gates Foundation (USA) - Elma Family Foundation (USA) - Small Foundation (Ireland) - Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Liberia/USA) - Mastercard Foundation
Our professional music studio, Imba GMZ Phola Studios, was founded in 2018. We provide a platform for artists to record and produce high-quality music. From December 2025, we're excited to relaunch our initiative to record talent from rural areas for free, providing a platform for marginalized voices to be heard. As members of Absa and Proudly SA, we uphold the highest standards of quality and community engagement.
Our popular radio show, Building Africa With Love, formerly played on Channel Africa, an inter radio station of SABC. We are now going independent and will broadcast every Monday between 18h00 and 19h00 CAT on our website, starting from 15 April 2025.
